Diverse Food Offerings
At UVM Dining, we’re committed to providing a safe and enjoyable dining experience for everyone. We know that for some students, dining choices are deeply connected to religious beliefs, and we’re here to support you with options that meet your needs.
If you have specific needs or questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Registered Dietitian. We’re here to make your dining experience comfortable and delicious.
Kosher Dining Options
- Hot Kosher Meals: Our certified kosher kitchen at Redstone Dining is a meat/parve kitchen, operated by Vermont Kosher LLC under the Orthodox Rabbinical supervision of Chabad of Vermont. Hot kosher meals are served Sunday–Thursday from 5 PM–7:30 PM. Just let the cashier know, and they’ll provide you with a receipt to pick up your meal at the kosher station.
- Grab-and-Go Kosher Meals: Need something quick? You’ll find pre-packaged Vermont Kosher meals at Redstone Market, The Marketplace, and University Marche.
Halal Dining Options
We’re here to support students seeking halal dining options on campus.
- The Halal Shack & Jamal’s Chicken: Located on the first floor of the Davis Center inside Brennan’s, both of these options serve certified halal foods.
- If you are looking for support following a halal diet on campus, reach out to our Registered Dietitian. Many students choose vegan or vegetarian options available across campus in dining halls and retail locations. To request certified halal (Murray's) chicken in our dining halls, please reach out to our Registered Dietitian to set up an accommodation.
- Ingredient Transparency: Curious about what’s in a dish? Our chefs and sous chefs are happy to answer your questions, provide recipes, or share food labels for your review.
Accommodations during Ramadan
- Pre-packaged certified halal meals are available upon request from a sous chef in the dining halls.
- Halal chicken is available in our 4 dining halls upon request from a sous chef. Please note that while the chicken is certified halal, it is prepared in a standard kitchen that is not certified halal.
- If you have questions about specific ingredients in a dish, a sous chef can provide recipes or food labels for your review.
- Ramadan Meal Exchange Accommodation: Students observing Ramadan may use up to two Meal Exchanges per week (Monday–Friday) to purchase a meal at The Halal Shack. This accommodation is available only for On-Campus Meal Plans and Swipe Out Hunger Meal Swipes. To access it throughout Ramadan, please email Ania.Egan@uvm.edu to be added to the approved list.
